The World Passes By

Winded, but running on adrenaline, he did an almost perfect roll reversal; he bit her as hard as he could, then used the position offered by that grip to throw her off him.

The gash on his forehead had deepened when they had collided, but the fight was not over yet.

She ran up the wall and then jumped down at him, her nails growing into claws, aiming to dig them deep into his shoulders and then land behind him.

One of her claws got stuck into the bullet wound in his shoulder, and scraped a nerve ending.

Yelling, the pain intense, he dropped to his knees, took the hunting knife out of his boot, and under his arm, stabbed her as many times as he could in the chest.

She grabbed his wrist and twisted, breaking it and only biting her lip to show that the stabbings had had any effect whatsoever.

Yelling again, agony racing up his wrist, he spun around and king hit her in the face.

She grabbed his hand and squeezed, breaking various fingers. Her other hand punched him in the ribs, not at full force but stronger than the average human, though not by much.

The yell was hoarse enough that it bordered on a scream, but he was still - no doubt foolishly - fighting. He headbutted her, kicked her in the stomach and rolled away, now broken and bleeding beyond most men's endurance. Grasping the knife, he stood, not particularly stable on his feet, but ready to attack again.

She wiped some blood off her lip and pulled out a second gun.

"It's over," she said, her voice slightly hoarse, "you did well."

"Over?" Blood now covered half his face, most of his chest, and the entirety of one arm.

"I...think not." Kissing the chain he rose with broken fingers to his lips, he let it drop, and motioned her with the knife.

"Well?... t-take your...best...shot."

"No," she said, "I'm not killing you. You've proven yourself above any other human I've met. That was all I wanted."

Connan laughed; true, he coughed up blood as he did so, but it was a laugh never the less.

"I s-still say... go...fuck yourself."

Dropping to his knees, he sheathed the knife, and took his empty gun off the cobblestones. Then, standing out of sheer bloodymindedness, he gave her a mocking salute, turned his back on her, and began to limp out of the alley.

Di silently jumped towards him, her hand coming down on the back of his head as she landed, knocking him out. She grabbed him as he fell and walked into the street. She could sense her chasers moving towards the exit... so they had caught her scent.

Well too bad; they were probably still hungry, and they weren't getting this one for a meal. She jumped onto a nearby roof and ran to her most recent hideout.
